Peanut Consumption Can Prevent Pancreatic Cancer

Do not hesitate anymore to choose nuts as a healthy snack your menu. A recent study revealed another benefit of eating nuts, which reduces the risk of the emergence of pancreatic cancer.

Researchers from Harvard University report that consumption of nuts such as almonds, cashews, and other nuts are very influential in reducing your risk of pancreatic cancer. The study, published online in the British Journal of Cancer examined the association between nut consumption and risk of pancreatic cancer in 75 680 women respondents.

The results showed that people who ate one ounce of nuts, including almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamias, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios, and walnuts, at least twice a week were much less likely to pancreatic cancer than those who do not eat.

"The reduction in risk was not related to several other factors that also influence such as age, height, obesity, physical activity, smoking, and diabetes," said lead researcher, Ying Bao, MD, of Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, as quoted from Max Health News, Monday (11/11/2013).

Not only that, this study also showed that women who incorporate nuts in their diet tend to have lower body weight than women who are reluctant to eat them.

Nuts are loaded with beneficial nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals, the previously mentioned study also has strong links with better mental function and lower the risk for diabetes.

Pancreatic cancer attacks the body without showing any symptoms beforehand. This disease can only be known, after the patient was in an advanced stage that it is difficult to cure.

But women do not need to be discouraged. Researchers stated, pancreatic cancer can be prevented by the consumption of nuts. The study by Harvard Medical School found.

"Pancreatic cancer is a cancer that is caused by age, height, obesity, physical activity, smoking, diabetes, and dietary factors," said researcher Ying Bao.

The study included 75 680 women with no history of previous cancer. Nuts studied were hazelnuts, macadamias, pecans, walnuts, cashews, pistachios, and almonds.

Researchers recommend consuming one ounce of almonds at least two times a week. In addition to a reduced risk of cancer, those who like to eat nuts also have a lower body weight, compared to those who did not consume it.
