Lights at Night is Dangerous to Health

Lights on for 24 hours a day may be required by today's society. However, behind it turns out the lights lit at night can be bad for health.

American Medical Association showed that excessive light at night, including the light of a computer screen or other electronic devices can interfere with sleep, especially in adolescents and children.

As reported by MSNBC, turning on the wrong kind of light at night can cause unsafe conditions while driving, and experts even claim that exposure to light at night can be a cause of cancer.

AMA concerned about the effects of exposure to direct light to the eyes at night. When darkness, pupils will be dilated to seek the light. But if you look at the lights directly ,, then the pupils will constrict and can damage eyesight.

In addition, animal studies also showed that exposure for 24 hours a day can increase the risk of certain types of cancer. While human studies found a link between exposure to light at night with the number of times a person awake at night and an increased risk of breast cancer.

Dr. Mario Motta, a cardiologist from North Shore Medical Center in Salem, explaining that exposure will reduce the production of melatonin, which is made during sleep. Melatonin is a hormone cancer prevention, reducing melatonin as well as increase the risk of cancer.

The use of electronic devices such as television at night can also affect children and adolescents. Electronic devices produce blue light in large numbers and can suppress melatonin production.

Motta advised parents to keep children's sleep patterns and ideally they turn off the lights when they are sleeping. But if the children afraid of the dark, then turned on the red light will be better than the bright lights with blue light.
